2012 Georges Vernay "Blonde du Seignur" Cote-Rotie

2012 Georges Vernay "Blonde du Seignur" Cote-Rotie

Wine & Spirits Magaine 92pts: "This is supple and cool, with Cote Blonde restraint. Five percent viognier adds extra lift, plling the bright spice of syrah along with it; the fruit feels gentle, the wine's power apparent in its extraordinary length rather than muscle. "

Vinous 92pts:"Bright violet color. Vibrant, mineral-laced aromas of red fruit preserves, candied flowers and spicecake, along with a hint of licorice. Palate-staining, concentrated raspberry liqueur, cherry and peppery spice flavors show excellent clarity and power. The floral quality dominates the finish, which hangs on with superb tenacity and only a hint of fine-grained tannins. I find this expressive wine quite approachable but it also has the depth and balance to reward patience. "

Wine Advocate 91pts: "2012 Côte Rôtie Blonde de Seigneur comes from the lighter soils of the southern part of the appellation and was completely destemmed and vinified all in stainless steel. Incorporating 3-5% Viognier and aged 18 months in 30% new barrels, it exhibits a complex, refined style to go with pretty rose petal, red raspberry and spice-driven aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, seamless and elegant, with a forward, feminine style, drink it over the coming decade."

Winemaker's Notes: "The Blonde du Seigneur is very much in the style of the Cote Blonde with 5% to 8% Viognier. It shows very floral notes. It has a beautiful dark color with a nose of mineral, smoke, black fruit, black olive, and cracked pepper that is always enhanced with a floral component. The palate is aromatic, with well-constructed but smooth tannins, continuing into a long finish."
